What that means in practice

The trips listed here are sold through Viator and GetYourGuide. When you follow a link from one of these pages and go on to book, the platform pays us a share of its own commission. You pay the same fare either way; the price on the booking page is the operator's price, not a marked-up one.

What we are not

We are not a tour operator. We do not run any of these trips, employ any of these guides or hold your booking. Your contract is with the operator, through the platform.

We have no connection with CONANP, SEMARNAT, the Museo Subacuático de Arte, the Isla Mujeres municipality, the Quintana Roo tourism board, the ferry companies or any tour or boat operator.

How trips get listed

Operators cannot pay for placement, position or a badge. A badge on a card is a measured claim: Top rated only on a trip rated 4.9 or higher, Best seller only on the trip with the most reviews, Best value only on the cheapest. Island Adventures' three-stop reef and museum trip carries Best seller, the private whale shark boat carries Top rated, and Pocna's museum and Manchones reef trip carries Best value. A platform's own badge, such as a certification, is not shown.

Two trips are sold on both platforms: the same operator, the same day, two listings with their own ratings and slightly different fares. Both appear because each is separately bookable, and they are never shown side by side as if they were different days.

The featured trips at the top of the homepage are three different kinds of day: a reef and museum trip from a downtown shop, a whale shark day with Cancún pickup, and a private boat for your own group.

Prices, ratings and how current they are

Prices, star ratings and review counts belong to the operators and were taken from their own listings on 21 September 2026. They move, and the figure at checkout is the one that counts. Every trip fare is quoted in US dollars because that is the currency the listings were captured in; nothing is converted at an exchange rate. Every fare here is per person except the private museum boat, the yacht and the sailing catamaran, which price per group, and that is the listings' own statement rather than our reading of them.

The facts about the national park, its fee, its rules and Isla Contoy are CONANP's own, read from its pages. The whale shark season and the rules in the water are SEMARNAT's, from its management plan for 2025 to 2027. The underwater museum's figures are the artist's own, Jason deCaires Taylor's. The crossing is the Quintana Roo tourism board's. The climate figures are SMN-CONAGUA's normals for the Cancún station, and the hurricane season the US National Hurricane Center's. Where a detail comes from a listing, such as a meeting point, a group size, a dock fee or what lunch includes, it belongs to that trip.

What we deliberately do not publish

• The sea temperature. We found no official table for the water off the island, so we give none.
• A sargassum season. CONANP lists the seaweed among the park's algae, but we found no official seasonal forecast.
• A daily visitor limit for Isla Contoy. One is widely repeated, but it is not on CONANP's own page.
• How far out the whale sharks are. The listings give the ride in time, about an hour each way, and no official source gives a distance.
• Ferry fares and timetables. They are the ferry companies' to publish and they change.
• The size of Manchones reef, and who built the small lighthouse at El Farito and when. We found no official source for either.
• "The world's largest" whale shark gathering. Some listings say it; no official source we read does.
• A "top 10 beaches" ranking for Playa Norte. It is the tourism board's claim, not a measured one.
• A Travelers' Choice badge. No listing in this capture carries that award, so the badge is not shown on this site.
